About Great Woods Pet Sitting

Sue and Skippy

Great Woods Pet Sitting was founded in 2005 (originally Sue’s Pet Sitting Service) with a simple mission: provide reliable, professional care that gives pet parents real peace of mind.

After relocating to Norton in 2022, the business was renamed to reflect the local community it serves — while continuing the same relationship-based approach clients have trusted for years. Today, Great Woods Pet Sitting specializes in consistent, low-stress care for pets who rely on routine — including seniors, cats, puppies, and sensitive dogs.

⭐ Care Built Around Routine & Trust
Some pets struggle with change, rotating caregivers, or rushed visits.
A solo, consistent approach allows pets to:
Build trust over time
Maintain predictable routines
Experience less stress during absences
Be observed closely for subtle health or behavior changes
This is especially important for senior pets, shy cats, puppies learning life skills, and dogs who thrive with calm handling.
Great Woods Pet Sitting is intentionally designed around that consistency.

Professional Credentials Matter

When you hire Great Woods Pet Sitting, you are hiring a trained professional — not a hobby sitter.

Sue is:

These certifications aren’t just letters after a name. They mean ongoing education, safe handling practices, reduced stress for pets, and the ability to recognize potential health or behavior concerns early.

Why Being a Solo Sitter Benefits You

Great Woods Pet Sitting is intentionally a solo operation.

That means:

  • Your pet sees the same trusted person every visit

  • No rotating staff or unfamiliar faces

  • Consistent routines and handling

  • Direct communication every time

Because Sue limits the number of clients she accepts, each pet receives focused, dependable care.

⭐ A Lifetime of Living With Animals
Caring for animals has always been part of Sue’s life.
Growing up, she spent hours walking Snoopy, the family’s shepherd-collie mix, and helping care for horses at the family barn — early experiences that shaped a deep respect for individual personalities, boundaries, and communication.
Her own pets over the years have included rescue cats, senior companions, and medically complex animals, providing firsthand experience with aging, behavior changes, and daily care routines.

Mew Mew

Over the years, her own pets have included:

Mew Mew, a beloved polydactyl cat who shared 18 years of companionship

Bubba

Bubba, a fluffy black-and-white rescue adopted from the Mansfield Animal Shelter

Titania

Titania, a playful long-haired black cat adopted from APCSM

Today, she shares her home with two cats:

MariposaTummyHalloween2020

Mariposa, a sweet, fluffy tortoiseshell cat adopted from the Medfield Animal Shelter.

Kizmet, a sprited long-haired black cat adopted from Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton

⭐ Observation Is Part of the Service
Professional pet care isn’t just tasks — it’s awareness.
Routine visits allow for:
Monitoring appetite and litter habits
Noticing subtle behavior shifts
Reinforcing training skills
Supporting mobility changes in seniors
Catching household issues early

⭐ The Most Meaningful Part of the Work
Some pets bond immediately. Others take time.
Earning the trust of a shy cat who finally approaches, or watching a nervous dog relax into a familiar routine, is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
Those relationships are built slowly, through consistency and patience — and they’re never taken lightly.

⭐ The Philosophy
Great Woods Pet Sitting focuses on pets who benefit from calm, predictable, reward-based care.
Not high volume.
Not rushed visits.
Not interchangeable caregivers.
Just steady, professional support that helps pets feel secure while you’re away.
